An Adoption Update. Subtitled, The Most Unflattering Picture You'll See Today.

Bookmark and Share

I just finished nine evenings of training required for our next adoption. I ended up calling that 27 hours of instruction, "Whereupon I Ripped Out My Heart And Drove Over It With A Mack Truck."

So, in other words, exhausting. In every possible way.

Here I am with my binder:

Hubs took his training back in January, in one lump sum over a weekend. Now we're officially well-trained parents who can categorize and give labels to the mistakes we make.

Bonus!

We have sent all our paperwork to the agency, that is, if by saying "we" I really mean just "me." So you know, I'VE BEEN BUSY.

Not that I'm prone to exaggerating, but this (THIRD) time around, in all seriousness, we had to obtain ELEVEN separate background checks.

I'm still not a criminal. But I'm getting awfully close.

Next we meet with the social worker, whose job is to evaluate every nook and cranny of our lives looking for signs that we are indeed Complete Failures of the Homesteading and Parental Kind.

She won't have to look very far.

Until she comes, I'll be spending my time in prayer stashing stuff at the neighbor's house. If social workers were smart, they'd make a surprise visit to the house the night before the scheduled meeting to see, ummm, how shall we say, how things really are.

On second thought, scratch that.

I like the censored version a whole lot better.

So. Once our kids' minds are erased house is cleaned, our social worker will conduct some interviews, write up a glossy report, and then we'll start to see pictures of available kids to adopt.

Piece of cake.

Stay tuned for future parenting and housecleaning tips adoption updates. Better yet, follow me on twitter for the nitty gritty. The ride will only get wilder from here.

Yay for you!! It's hard work for sure. When we were doing the first round of our budget for the FPU class everyone was dreading all the forms and such they had to do one week. I was like, "This is hard? I have filled out the paperwork for TWO adoptions. THIS is CHILD'S PLAY!"

Anyway, it's good to be able to move on to looking at photos and saying, "No....No.....No....." That's LOTS of fun. Just have to keep in mind that it's all the path to "YES! That's OUR child!!"

Will be praying for you.

Oh, let's hope the social workers don't read your blog. Might want to prep the neighbors for that surprise visit.

Study hard!

Ha ha, Kelly! I've filled out that same three-page financial form THREE TIMES for THIS ADOPTION ONLY. Every time one line item changes, I have to update it all. It's the definition of insanity, for sure.

Hang in there! We're still waiting on our "official" ok from our state, even though our home study was turned in eons ago. Blah! I'll be praying for y'all, and welcome prayers for us, too! ♥

I just found your blog through Twitter. I love your style of writing -- and I think it's neat that you are sharing this journey of adoption. I have no doubt you'll inspire many! I'm looking forward to making this a daily blog check. :)

Oh Oh Oh! Wait till they call and e-mail asking you to clarify all the answers you wrote in the packet! I'm thinking, if you wanted to know all that, why didn't you give me more lines to write on?!?!?!

It's a process of elimination, I suppose. If you have the patience and tolerance for the go-round of forms and bureaucracy, then you might actually have the patience and tolerance for a toddler.

Or they're just torturing you. ;-)

You cannot fool your Mom - you LOVE paperwork and TONS of it. Keep plugging away and remember what "reward" you will have when it is finished.
