100 Things About Me
It's your choice to read this or not. I make no promises you'll still be awake at the end.
100 Things About Me
100 Things About Me
- I grew up as the second child in a two-kid family.
- But I'm as responsible and bossy as a first-born.
- I like to study people and then put them into boxes.
- I'm stuck in the Melancholy-Choleric box, if that means anything to you.
- If not, it just means I need a lot of time to think.
- And that I get a lot of my self-worth from accomplishments.
- That worked well in Corporate America.
- But then I had kids.
- I stay home with my kids. I'm blessed.
- But I rarely, if ever, get my needs met.
- Especially the needs for "neatness" and "order."
- I haven't seen my carpet since 2006.
- I plan to regain control of my house someday.
- But by then, I won't be at home much anyway.
- I'll be traveling the world.
- I'll seek out the most educational and heart-wrenching stuff.
- Because I'm a geek who enjoys pain.
- So does my husband, which is why I'll be taking his camera and his creative self with me.
- I tend to make plans for other people's lives.
- We're going to Africa first.
- I met my hubs in 1992 and we've been best friends ever since.
- He has a dry, situational type of wit. That's what got me hooked.
- If I don't laugh every now and then, I get really depressed.
- Which is why I also enjoy a good cry.
- I schedule that in about once a month.
- Music has moved me in ways the spoken word never has.
- I took piano lessons for twelve years.
- That's a lot of money.
- But I'm glad my parents did that versus filling my room full of stuff.
- Accompanying is my favorite. It has all the joy of expression without all the attention.
- I also played the sax.
- But I wish I'd played the oboe. It's harder to play, more soulful in sound, and less flashy.
- I'm weird like that.
- Band and choir were my favorite classes.
- There's something about playing music with others that is like nothing else in this world.
- I miss that.
- I've also played the cello and the accordion. I loved them both for vastly different reasons.
- I also like to sing but I think the word "loud" best describes my style.
- I like public speaking but not one-on-one.
- If you laugh at my stories, you make my day.
- But sometimes my humor is odd.
- That stems from an overactive imagination.
- I've perfected the art of steamrolling.
- I tend to be a know-it-all.
- Preferring tasks over people.
- I don't get invited to parties.
- But if you ever need an overbearing expert, I'm your gal.
- I get bogged down with my weaknesses.
- I spent my teens ignoring my faults.
- And then my 20s drowning in them.
- But my 30s have been a relief. I self-loathe only six days a week.
- That tends to come out when I write.
- I write to teach.
- But mostly to make people laugh.
- If I accomplish both those things, I feel like I've hit a home run.
- I started tutoring my peers in second grade, and had to miss recess to do so.
- I didn't mind.
- I have a teacher flame in me that will. not. die.
- That's why I homeschool my kids.
- I plan to be a trainer some day.
- I love to be up-front, entertaining and teaching a crowd.
- Just don't come up and hug me when I'm done.
- I got kissed in kindergarten by "Grody Jody."
- There's another boy from that class who consistently pops up in my dreams.
- I hate to go to bed.
- I'd rather go to the library than shop at the mall.
- I wish I didn't gag while eating fish.
- I grew up on an 80-acre farm in Ohio.
- I liked to stare out my bedroom window.
- Especially when it rained.
- Now I live in the urban Pacific Northwest.
- And I love it.
- There's something rather comforting about being (very closely) surrounded by people.
- Even the weird ones.
- Of whom I am Queen.
- My favorite kind of music is country.
- It takes me back to my roots.
- Plus I love a good story.
- I also love Jesus.
- Though I often take over as Savior.
- That's one reason I chose to adopt.
- I thought I could save the world.
- But I was given the world in return.
- My girl is a delight.
- But when she sleeps, I hold tight to her hand and cry.
- I can't see her without seeing her mom.
- I absorb the world's pain as my own.
- That's why I don't watch the news.
- But I read quite a bit.
- My kids have taught me more than any book ever has.
- I've got a son (8) who acts just like me.
- And a boy (5) who's as sweet as pie.
- My China girl (3) is a Party In A Box.
- She has transformed me.
- As did my trip to China.
- I had a miscarriage in 2003.
- Worst time in my life.
- But I found out I have friends and family who support me.
- And a God who won't leave me.
- That means more than anything else I've put on this list.

You hit a home run with me about every time you write.
"Wanted to save the world, but got the world in return." Thanks for putting words to my feelings.
Miss ya.
This was a joy to read and you are a joy to have as a daughter-in-law. Thank you for sharing who you are. That is a gift.
Hi there, I just stumlbed onto your blog by way of someone else's...I enjoyed reading your list. It's honest and kinda raw--we need more of that in this ol world. Noone has it all together and it serves noone when people pretend that they do. So thanks for sharing your real life randomness.
this is amazing and I look foward to seeing what you are going to write next!
Oh. Weird. I knew we somehow tend to visit the zoo and beach on the same day, even though we are on different American coastlines, but I had no idea we were so much alike! I could relate to most the items on this list, especially the ones about music (except I play only flute - but I love playing with some good accompaniment, and I could do it all day long!).
I have to say, though, that #s 23, 40, 54, & 61, along with the whole atmosphere of your blog, say that you have a good bit of sanguine in you. But then, of course, I don't know you in person. :)
Thanks so much for blogging. I thoroughly enjoy it!
By the way, what an awesome mother-in-law you have!
Woah! When did you get to 100?!?! Did I miss some posts!
oh...never mind. Different 100. I really enjoyed this one!
I grew up in a VERY outgoing household (right, Mom?) and therefore have picked up some outgoing (entertaining) traits from that.
On a side note, last night at adoption training, we were talking about family culture as it relates to mealtime behavior. I couldn't believe it, JUST COULDN'T BELIEVE IT, that several families ate dinner w/o talking. At all. W O W. Our mealtimes were like a big party, everyone shouting and talking and hee hee hooing the whole time. Crazy.
Wow....I haven't even done my list of 25 yet, and here you have 100. You do a great job with your posts, you know i'm one of your faithful readers!! Miss you!
They say laughter is good for the soul, right? Well, I am one of those obsessive cyber-stalker blog readers (of only YOUR blogs...), and I often end up reading them aloud to my husband on a nightly basis. Thanks for making me laugh, cry (usually from laughing so hard), and learn. Oh, and thanks for the serious stuff, too! I love it all, and yes, you should be making MONEY doing this stuff!!!!!!
#41 - yeah, kinda knew that one already. :) It's why I come to your blog. That, and the good recipes.
Oh, and I was totally awake and laughing at the end of the list.
You make us proud in all you do, and your writing is so YOU!!! Love you and miss you.
sigh....
especially holding the sleeping hand and the worlds pain. sniff.
Thanks for sharing. It's encouraging to know that God never leaves us, even when we sometimes wish He would...
#71 is a tough one living in the PNW. Lots of fish and sometimes little else on the menu. From a fellow fish abstainer who frequently visits family there, I feel your pain.
I'm new to your blog, and just want to say I love the 100 things about you.. so funny, open, and honest. And I'm with you on a lot of the things you mentioned, particularly the things about the sorrows of the world, and also the music.
I'm a singer, and play no intruments(yet), but the times I have been able to sing with muscians, and it all just fit so well together, were some of the greatest times I have had.
Look forward to reading more of your blog. :)
Hmmm, I stumbled onto your blog googling a recipe for warm mayo salad dressing with bacon, egg and spinach. LOL
When I was done getting the recipe (and I made it tonight BTW,it was very yummy!)I was about to close out when my eyes caught glimpse of a few comments you made here and there, as well as the title to your blog.
Your humor is much like mine, however I think you are much funnier.
I, like you, am a thinker and I am a very deep thinker at that.
I analyze everything and I tend to over analyze it all.
Like you I also observe people, I study/watch them and try to "figure them out". Although I really have a hard time trying to just figure myself out, maybe it's really just more of a self acceptance thing?
Anyways, kudos to you and your blog. Your family is lovely and
you truly are blessed!
BTW, if I had a party I would definitely invite you. You could tell me what to do and then we can both think about it lol
Because I am the Melancholy-Phlegmatic type ;)
I also avoid the news as much as possible cause I absorb it in too much and I can't save the world, unfortunately. Oh and I too am a SAHM who prefers the library or a good book store to any mall anytime!
CHEERS!

Thank you for being so real...I am a mother of 4...three girls, 1 boy (two adopted, two bio)...you ROCK!!! thanks for sharing!!

I love your writing. I'm a 35-year-old single gal who moved to Portland three weeks ago. I found your blog because yesterday I happened to be in the NE and saw Klickitat Street. A google search about Beverly Cleary led me to your post about the walking tour and I've been enjoying everything else on your blog.
