Eco-Friendly Tub And Tile Cleaner

Bookmark and Share

Since I shower at least once a week, shouldn't my tub be the cleanest place in my house?

HUH?

So much for theories.

I gave up on the Malevolent Marketing Scheme Maintenance Sprays many moons ago. I figured that cleaning for 15 minutes a year month was much easier and cheaper than cramping up my trigger finger every... single... day.

One thing I like about using eco-friendly cleaners is that I don't have to store a cabinet full of chemicals, all waiting to be tasted by my troops. Instead--when I get the annual urge to clean, I can head to the kitchen and mix up a potion.

It's like my very own game of Mad Scientist--minus the "science" part.

(Because I totally can't clean unless I work up a good angry.)

(But I know that none of you are like that.)

Here's the recipe. Go and clean mean green.

Eco-Friendly Tub and Tile Cleaner

(comparable to "Soft Scrub")

1 2/3 cups baking soda
1/2 cup liquid soap
2 tablespoons vinegar
1/2 cup water

Mix soda and soap. Add water, then add vinegar. Store in a squirt-top bottle and shake before using. Rinse thoroughly to avoid leaving a residue.

Your eco-friendly tile recipe is more involved than I like to get with tub-cleaning, so I guess that makes me a REALLY bad housekeeper. I usually just dump some baking soda in there and scrub away. Of course, I don't get to enjoy any "science experiments" with this method. Maybe if I added some vinegar, too. . . .

p.s. I meant tile cleaning recipe, not tile recipe!

This recipe sounds great. I've been using a 1/2 and 1/2 mixture of borax and baking soda, but boy, does that require elbow grease! I'm going to give this one a try. Do you have a laundry soap recipe you like? If so, would you care to share? :-)
Thanks!

This sounds right up my alley! Trying to make homemade cleaners to be more frugal and eco-friendly has been my goal lately.

Thanks for the tip. We try not to use chemical cleaners here.

I will have to try that because soft scrub is exactly what I use right now, :).

Thanks for the tip.

This recipe works great. I have the same recipe on my blog posted a few weeks ago. It works really well, without all the fumes.

Wait, wait, wait...

That exciting mixture of baking soda, vinegar, and liquid soap (or detergent) sounds suspiciously like what my boys put into their home-made volcanoes!

And you put this into a closed bottle and shake it?

Are you standing IN the shower in a haz-mat suit when you do this?!?!

(LOL imagining the scene! Hey, add a little food color and it gets REALLY fun!)
