Growing Something: Part 2
I haven't caught the elephant yet that did this to my zucchini plant:
I guess when he saw the tag, he took "squash" a bit too literally.
Oh glory. My zucchini plant was the one vegetable I thought would survive for sure. It had a head start against its buddies that were in the little packets of seeds.
Time will tell if those roots really do "run deep," like the label also says.
Anyone else got a graveyard going on in the garden?

But true to The List, we are going to grow SOMETHING this year. Even if it ends up being just weeds.

Keep your head held high - we have deer in our garden this year munching on our green beans!! Of course, they stay away from the horseradish, I wonder why?? We are looking forward to watching your "garden grown".
I put up a little fence this year because I noticed an infestation of rabbits in our neighborhood. So far, so good. I have tomatoes on 8 of my 9 plants. Plus, we have healthy looking pumpkin and watermelon plants that my 9 year old planted.
Seriously, the rabbits in the neighborhood seem out of control this year. I'm thinking that we may need to hire some sort of special help to have them removed or set them up with cable tv.
I tried container gardening last year to prevent trampling. I thought I'd start out small by just doing red peppers. Red Peppers are one of my favorite and I hate to pay $3.25 a pound for them. They didn't end up looking as good as your zucchini plant - the teeny sprouts were most definitely squashed. Maybe next year . . .
You always manage to make me laugh! I did finally get my kids out to the weed patch -- er -- garden. It's still an embarassing mess, but I think my veggies are growing. I can't find some of them for the weeds though.
I think your Zuke might still come back -- as long as the elephant doesn't. :-)
Does OSH exist in Oregon? Our OSH has a LIFETIME guarantee on all the plants they sell--if it dies for any reason, you can return it for another plant. Like, even if you don't water the plant, you can just take it back and get a new one. Cool, huh? This might help you out if you think the elephant (small child?) will come back.
