Spicy Asparagus Spears
When asparagus is on the menu, I encourage my kids to eat their greens, telling them that asparagus is Just Like Green Beans. (Only asparagus doesn't look like green beans, nor does it taste like green beans. Maybe this is why they're never fooled.)
When I make this recipe, I usually steam the asparagus first, and then quick-fry the diced veggies in the rest of the ingredients. Makes for additional dishes, but I'm funny about the texture of my veggies, and steaming is my method of choice. By doing this, I can also set aside some veggies for the kids before I've added all the spice. They're crazy that way - not enjoying the Sweating Head and Running Nose effect of red pepper.
Hope you like this variation on a springtime favorite. Let me know how you like to eat your asparagus!
Spicy Asparagus Spears
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/2 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
crushed red pepper flakes, to taste
1 3/4 pounds fresh asparagus, trimmed
In a large skillet, melt butter. Stir in the onion powder, seasoned salt, Cajun seasoning and red pepper flakes. Add asparagus spears, stirring gently to coat. Cover and cook for 5-7 minutes or until crisp-tender, stirring occasionally. 6 servings.

Grilled with olive oil and then a bit of kosher salt. You'll never go back.
i love asparagus. And my weirdo kids do too, go figure. L could say the word when he was not even 2. I typically broil it. Toss it with a bit of soy sauce and oil and garlic OR with a good balsamic dresing and then broil on low til crisp tender. Mmmmmm.
I just put it in the microwave and cook until it's softened, then add some lemon pepper. My kids will eat any veggie with lemon pepper. This recipes sounds really good, I'll have to try it.
I like asparagus any way I can get it. I'm gonna have to try your recipe AND the ones offered by the other commenters. Yum!
I love asparagus with a light spring meal. Sounds delicious!

Sadly, I am the only one in my family who likes asparagus. But I will make this sometime when we have company coming over! Thanks!
I LOVE Asparagus. Especially when it goes on sale for $1.99/lb. So, I don't get to buy it very often.
I will try this. I've also heard about Big Doofus' idea to grill it with olive oil and salt. I totally have to trust someone called Big Doofus. I'll be trying that as well.
