Thanksgiving Thankfulness Journal

Bookmark and Share

Maybe you go about your days with a song in your heart, but not me. Okay, so maybe I *do* sing a song, but it sounds more like Gloom, Despair and Agony On Me:
Gloom, despair, and agony on me
Deep, dark depression, excessive misery
If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all
Gloom, despair, and agony on me
And please, please tell me there is another Hee Haw fan in this crazy bunch of readers, lest I end up thinking I am the only one who is Hick To The Core.

But before I get back on topic, allow me to say just one more thang: "You met another...and phfffffbt you was gone."

Now, back to our regularly scheduled Helpful Blog Post.

In our family, we generally need a Good Ol' Shove In The Rear to focus on the positive things of life. (Oh! You are so shocked!) So we created a Thanksgiving Thankfulness Journal, something we write in each Turkey Day. Not that we try to squeeze all of our gratefulness into one day, mind you, but it's a start. Each person writes or draws what they are thankful for that year.

When my son was five, that happened to be fire hydrants and peas. And he meant "peas," not "pees" as some of you might be thinking, and I have the page colored with little green veggies to prove it.

Then each Stuff Yourself Day, it is fun to go back and read and cackle at the entries from the years before. And if you look closely, you might even see a tear or two escape from my eyes.

Now...that might be from me cutting the onions for the dressing, but it might not be. I have a heart in there somewhere, and taking the time to be thankful helps to draw it out. Literally.

And that's what works for me this thanksgiving season. For more ideas, head over to We Are That Family.

My Dad sings this Hee Haw song to my kids, who think it is very amusing ~smile~

And, yes, I am 100% sold out on Gratitude journals. We've been writing in one as a family each morning, cultivating grateful hearts.

So we don't take up Dad's song. ~warm smile~

Thank you!
All's grace,
Ann

We start our thanksgiving journal last year and it was so fun to look back at it this year. We also have those we are sharing our thanksgiving meal with to also write what they are thankful for.

Great tip, because then it also takes the pressure off of thinking of something off the cuff whilst you're stuffing your face.

I think this is my very first visit to your blog and I was literally bouncing up and down with excitement when I saw your Hee-Haw reference. Oh, we are kindred souls, you & I! My father still says BR-549 and "Hey, Grandpa, what's fer supper?" I'm starting a Thankfulness Journal today, and the happy memories you brought back to mind are going in it!

I miss Hee Haw! Is it still on somewhere? I have GOOD memories of watching it with my grandpa and laughing until our sides hurt. Thanks for the memory!

All I remember about Hee Haw is that it followed the Barbara Mandrel sisters show, or was that Donny and Marie or Lawrence Welk? It was ONE of the many shows I was subjected to as a child! :) P.S.--Welcome back! I love your blogs. I've missed you!!

What a wonderful idea! I think I am going to have to start one this year for our family.

Oh my word... you are bringing back my childhood! One set of grandparents were the Hee-Haw variety, while the other set went for Lawrence Welk (leader of the bland).

Love the thankful journal!
