Trash Mash

The boys grabbed their gloves and entered the ring. But it wasn’t boxing this time, surprisingly. It was “Trash Mash”. On went the work gloves, and as they walked through the house, they’d put garbage in bags. “Garbage” being defined as “kitchen utensils” and “remote controls”.

I saw my chance. This Trash Mash Team could do some good!

So with wagon in tow, my kids collected litter around the block. In the process, they learned important things like how a drink can be a “Busch”, and a “butt” is not your tush.

I make it too hard. But the call to “serve one another” can be as simple as gloves in my garage and the trash by the road. No big production. No huge expense. We talked to the neighbors, waved ‘hello’ to the drivers. After two hours of work, we came home with a wagon load of satisfaction, glad to do our part in the community.

Trash Mash: Where gloves donned for fun became love that was done.

"It is absolutely clear that God has called you to a free life. Just make sure that you don't use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom. Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that's how freedom grows. For everything we know about God's Word is summed up in a single sentence: Love others as you love yourself. That's an act of true freedom." [Galatians 5:13-14, The Message]
